Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley.
(Avon, 2010.)
Review by Laura Parish.
Christmas is not a happy time for widower Holly Brown. When she gets the chance to look after a remote house on the Lancashire Moors, she jumps at the chance to escape the festivities and be alone. However, as the family of the owner descends, the blizzards set in and the owner himself returns, Holly finds that the escape she planned is not going to go to plan.
Christmas and romance; what else do I need. This book has a nice gentle start. The characters are introduced well, are likeable and humorous. I got wrapped up in the atmosphere created in this book; I’ve always loved the idea of spending Christmas in an old house. Another likeable feature is that, at the beginning of the book, Holly, finds old journals from her Grandmother. This adds mystery that made me want to keep turning the page and this plot element keeps you guessing as to whether Holly is closer to the family she’s being forced to look after than she thinks.
Also, Jude is very much a brooding ‘Mr Darcy’ figure; another plus point.
Twelve Days of Christmas is a wonderfully warm, festive story. I liked it very much.
